[TheForge] Armor Plate

David: Without knowing the alloying of the material, heat treating will be
guesswork. Generally speaking, conventional armor plate is high in nickel,
which prevents cracking when struck by HS projectiles. The characteristics
of armor plate (toughness)don't necessarily translate into cutlery, where
hardness/hardenability are needed.

Your best bet is to try several heat treating schemes and see which, if any,
work.

I was given a piece of steel and there is a lot more. I was told that
it is salvaged armor plating, ASE 52250, Called Hardmax. I have no
idea about heat treat, how it works, welds, or grinds. It should make
wonderful knives, not that I am a bladesmith. Does anyone know
anything about this stuff.
