[TheForge] Capacity of Electrical wire

Yes. The sub panel needs a safety ground. The ground is also bonded at the
main panel. Ground and neutral will only be common at the main panel. But
the sub panel still needs a ground. Using AWG 2/0 wire will ensure that the
voltage drop with the current draw does not exceed acceptable limits.
The reason for two grounds is to assure a good ground. Having said all that
what you do is up to you and the local codes may or may not be as
restrictive. The NEC is written by industry and selective enforced
throughout the country. California and New York have more restrictive codes.

Are you sure about that Dan? I don't have it memorized, but as I
recall the NEC wanted all grounds bonded at the main disconnect, and
running a seperate ground was a no-no. Was common at one time for pool
pumps and well pumps maybe. Any how, not sure, it just stirred a brain
cell.
