[TheForge] Drawing Down Bar Stock

you did not mention the third type which I see the most often and also is
the type I most often make. The barrel is simply rolled back onto / into
itself. The end of the stock is beveled the same thickness as the stock so
that it can follow the contour. A strap hinge made from 3/16 or 1/4 in this
fashion will hold an enormous amount of weight, how much I do not know. But
to uncurl a barrel of 1/4" by 2 around a 3/8" or 1/2" pin would be more than
any door I could imagine short of an iron clad castle door.

Next time you are at the local farm supply look at the heaviest hinges they
have for barn or stall doors. they will be of 1/8 and simply rolled back,
yes I have seen the double lap hinges as well. I guess it just depends what
the hinges are holding and when is too much just too much.
