[TheForge] burners and other addictions

Mikey,
Would it work to have the excess carbon in the welding rod? A readily available high-carbon material is cast iron. Could you weld steel with a cast-iron rod and a propane flame?

Frosty,
OK, I should have said weld well enough to be certified. It isn't just the
intense heat available from an oxyacetylene flame that's needed, but also
the excess carbon in the flame, for acceptable steel welds. Mind you, if
someone can come up with a way around the problem, I would be the first to
applaud it. I may do some experiments mixing carbon into flux this summer
just to see if the "wall" can be breached somehow, as I would dearly love to
move acetylene clear out of the must have category.

I don't recall anything about investors but I didn't spend a lot of time on
the site. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same folk though.
My All States oxy/propane torch welds. Not terribly well admitedly, the
velocity of the flame is so high it blows the puddle around too much, but it
does weld. I have a lot better alternatives so don't weld with it.
Still.

If it ain't forged
it ain't real.
Wrought iron is.
