Chris,

My son makes damascus with layers of 1095 and pure nickel and it welds easy.

So if the substance really is nickel it shouldn't interfear.  If it is
something else, who knows.

hi Folks,
     I have been having a little trouble forge welding recently.  I found a
pool of nickel in my forge (from quarter mokume), could that be interfering
with my welds?  I found some of the nickel had adhered to my billet.
