Thanks Richard!  However,  the discussion was about mechanical hammers 
initially. On my air hammer Tom Clark showed me a ring around the top of the 
ram that I'm not to let go past the housing, or instant wreck.  I'll ask Sid 
about your situation, I know I've run mine without bottoming out, didn't 
break a thing.  Don't have any experience with a Fairbanks though, just 
Little Giants (have a 25, 50, 100, and 250)
