A few years ago I had to increase the height of my dies due to wear. I got some 4140 steel and had a professional welder weld it to the dies. Grind and dress the dies, heat treat, then you're ready to go. The dies have held up very well under heavy use.

Gentleman,
I am in the process of rebuilding a little giant hammer that I
recently acquired. One of my problems is that some where the hammer was
used I guess for texturing, as the dies (upper and lower) have a bunch of
small shallow depressions in them. Has any one any experience resurfacing
dies. I do not want to grind them because some of the dimples are fairly
deep. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
