The power hammer in Vernon Walters shop came to Lunenburg as ballast
in a sailing ship about (I infer from various yarns) 75 years ago.
Someone who knew what it was saw it hove overboard into the water. A
gang from the shop went down to the shore at low tide, waded out into
the tidal muck and hauled it back. One of the toggle arms was broken.
So Vernon's father forged one up and it was still in use until the
shop closed a couple or three years ago.

Know anybody that might need to move an empty schooner from, say,
Seattle or San Francisco in ballast?

Hmmm... Not to mention that, where you are, ocean freight straight
from China might be cheaper than trucking from the lower 48.
