If you guys are really set on playing with oil-fired burners, the topic has
been covered time and again on Castinghobby and Hobbicast Yahoo newsgroups.
Go and join, plunder their files, talk to whoever is left with an interest,
and find all the rest of the links you don't have yet. You will also find
some of the blue-flame oil burner guys who moved on with their plans at:
http://l.webring.com/hub?ring=hobbyfoundry
I consider the complete lack of enthusiasm for casting among blacksmiths to
be one of life's minor mysteries. However, those who wish to play with
oil-fired forges are going to find that:
(A) In order to live with the exhaust, they must burn the fuel efficiently
(B) The by product of clean burning high-carbon fuels is great heat
(C) Such heat requires furnace designs and refractory materials
Be not daunted by this, for a forge is naught but a furnace turned on its
side.

Note: I thought I sent this yesterday, but I sent it to Dave and forgot to
copy theforge.
Dave,
He has a lot of information on his site. He never really gives any specks
or diagrams of the burner, but lots of pictures and talk about how he did
it. I think I could put one together after visiting his site, but would
have to do some experimenting to fine tune it.

He talked about starting it with a small wood fire until the burner got hot
enough to self sustain. That was with the burrner that had a removeable top.
His later burner was sealed, he didn't say how he started that one.

I was bouncing around on the internet looking for info on waist oil heaters,
and came across a site for backyard casting. He had a burner designed to
burn waist oil to melt alluminum and brass. Looking at it it came to me
that there would be no difference in hooking the burner up to a forge than a
foundery.
Has anyone built or used an oil fired forge?
