Perhaps tDan and Jim are attempting to save you from (further) 
INJURY!  Personally I'd suggest using your silicon carbide crucible 
that you've designated as for Brass.

I was lucky in that the leak in my steel crucible was facing away 
from me  when is started spraying molten bronze out the side. Now I 
only use Silicon Carbide crucibles for aluminum and copper alloys.
