The best story I heard about moving was:
A young couple came into town and saw an old man
sitting in the center square whittling. The stopped
and approached the old man and explained that they
were thinking of moving into this town and wondered
what they could expect of the people in this town.
The old man looked them over and asked about the
people in the town where they lived now. The couple
replied enthusiastically that the people where they
lived were friendly and helped their neighbors any way
that they could.
The old man said that the people in this town were
much the same.
Another couple approached the same man later the same
day with the same question. When asked about the
people in the town where they lived now they replied
that they were not at all friendly, would gos sup
about them and were generally hateful people.
The old man looked at them sadly and told them that
the people in this town were much the same.
I don't need to explain the moral to this story. I've
found friendly and helpful people all over the world.
Not to make this post too long but I have to tell you
about a quote that I looked up the other day. It says
somewhat the same.
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners,
contempt for authority; they show disrespect for
elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children
are now tyrants, not the servants of their households.
They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company,
gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and
tyrannize their teachers.
Does this sound familiar? Haven't you heard someone
saying more or less the same thing about this
generation? It's actually a quote from Socrates
(469-399 B.C.). The more things change, the more they
remain the same!
