Ron:  I have heard that 5160, 1095, 1085 and L-6 have been used.  Each of
these steels will make a good tool, even edged tools,  provided the smith
does his/her part.  I have made good blades from auto coil springs, but the
heat treat and subsequent grinding require your attention.  Grant
