In the Mid-Atlantic Smith's Association we do not have a Life Membership
category. However, we occasionally bestow life membership to certain individuals
or organizations based on contribution. This is a largely arbitrary decision
that the board makes at some meeting. Examples for us are...or were... Bill
Gichner, The Yellin Foundation, Williamsburg Blacksmith Shop and some who are
severely handicapped. Life membership, for us, is an honorary position.

Our database is maintained on MS Access and life membership is effected by
simply entering a 'Dues Paid to' date of 2050 or the like. We also accept
membership payments for any length of time. Most recently several members paid up
for five years ($50). Increasingly, the members pay for more than one year to
avoid the hassle of annual payments.
