Thanks to everyone who replied. BAM already awards Life Memberships to
honor blacksmiths who have had an impact on the organization, I think we
have about 8. There has been some interest in being able to purchase a life
membership, so they wouldn't have to remember to pay year to year.
I'm sure there are actuary tables that would give me an answer, but I
haven't a clue where to start. I have a friend whos an actuary but I
haven't seen him in 20 years and have no idea how to contact him.
The 20 times annual membership number has come up a couple times so I guess
that's a place to start.

The ARRL American Radio Relay League also has life memberships.
I am a life member there and the NRA. Our blacksmith group have been
discussing a life membership status. As I recall when I signed up with
ARRL and NRA the life membership dues was about 20 times the annual dues.
I have suggested to our Northwest Ohio Blacksmiths group that if we
consider a life membership that we establish 2 classes. One that is
purchased by some fee and one that is awarded "Honarary Life Membership".
But then you have to establish guidelines to award a honary title.
So far we have taken no action.
