Andy,

I can't imagine a draw package that doesn't have an erase feature, it's got
to be there somewhere. Maybe you can use the paint brush with white as your
color.

You may also be able to use a fill feature to replace the canvis with
something quieter.

I know in photo shop you can get rid of a lot of background noise by
adjusting the levels.

I agree, but cannot yet figure out how to get all that noise out.
DrawPlus is a good package (especially since it is free), but is missing
some things, or has them in places where I can't seem to find them.  An
eraser would be nice, as would a cropping tool.  AFAICS there is only a
tool for adding crop marks.  I have not yet been able to actually crop
an image.
