that is one of the reasons I went to propane. was screwing up my sinus  worse 
then they were already. plus was constantly  blowing black junk out  of nose. 
being in the SCA and having a tent over my forge setup did not need to  burn 
it down with sparks and did  not need to  have the smoke rolling  through  
other camps and getting coal  smoke in everyone else's  lungs.too. 
When I  lived in Phoenix area we had no burn days. which  meant that wood 
fireplaces and other smoke was not allowed. Could cost a person  up to  $500  in 
fines per offense.  Since then I  run a  propane forge. 
just my 2 cents worth.
