It seems to me that this will cause your quench oil--whatever it is--to 
catch fire. If the entire piece is immersed, it is unlikely to catch 
fire. That said, I haven't used trans. fluid, so maybe that works 
differently.

Whatever the case, with oil quenches it is a wonderful idea to put the 
quench liquid in a metal container, and have a metal lid handy to put 
the fire out.
