For what it may be worth...
Ken Brown, majestically ffacile machinist, who used to distill 
his own staggeringly good Grappa; said that the critical thing is 
choosing your fractions and turning the bypass on the inflow , on 
and off at the right times/temperatures.
No hangover", he claimed...he was pretty damn hardy though.
I recall seeing the fumes distort the air over the top of that 
baby food jar he had in his overalls.
My eyes watered after sipping,and i grunted and grinned in 
appreciation....pete f
