[TheForge] Learning to weld

Paul,
Not long enough to learn - go to your local welding dealer, especially for
the tanks because they may not fill those bought elsewhere. Get a name
brand- Smith, Victor, Harris, etc. Even the small Harris outfit from Sam's
is pretty decent. The set comes with Regulators, hoses, a striker, tip
cleaner and torch tips for cutting and welding. Read the instruction manual
first so you won't blow the diaphragm in the regulators.

For gas welding, what's a good setup for self teaching? Are the small
outfit like:
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_565_565
or
http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/weldingdepot/22GKA50-TC.html?id=u85idEAk
Are these adequate for small work (or perhaps spot heating for isolating
other forged work)? Or are the so small that they're practically useless?
How long might I expect to work from such a small tank?
Those Q's will do for a start.
Thanks,
**Paul
