There is no end to the misunderstanding of "hard" and "soft". When I 
first started sharpening scaling chisels for a foundry I was getting 
them too hard and they were breaking. The foundry people told me that 
they were breaking because I wasn't getting them hard enough.

So I started making them softer (less hard?). They don't break now and 
the foundry is happy with the "harder" chisels.
