[TheForge] Any recommendations on cutoff saws? Brands, etc?

Justin,
If you already have some other means of cutting heavy bar stock and are
thinking of cutting shapes no thicker than 1/4" (overall size does not
matter to the blade, but their teeth overheat if they can't "breath"), than
you should consider a dry-cut saw. If you plan to cut heavy bar with the saw
then look for a smaller cold-cut type. In any case a friction blade saw of
the 14" variety will not make accurate cuts. If you go with a friction
cut-off, buy a 12" or less (an old Makita). If you can't find a good saw
within your budget, you should consider building one; money spent on bad saw
designs is wasted whether they are made in the USA or China.

I've decided to add a cutoff saw to my collection, and I am seeking advice:

any brands better/worse than the others?
is the Harbor Freight stuff too junky, or a reasonable alternative?

I know some of you guys are opinionated, so what do you say?
