Mikey, just for clarity's sake...there are a whole range of both 
color and/or temperature specific silver solders available from 
jeweler's supplies. Also there is a very strong nickle-copper 
based " silver solder" available...and a whole bunch of others.
Anytime you just buy a couple of sticks of a metal, you are 
paying for a lot of packaging, shipping, handling and putting up 
with you.
In our modern world, the latter, seems to be irritatingly 
expensive...pete f
