[TheForge] Soldering Stainless- or welding

Mark,
Silver braze is widely available in several forms through standard welding
supply stores. Furthermore, most of these stores are part of chains, who
deal mail order by phone and over the Net, so it does not matter where you
live. You can buy silver braze-including the wire versions--at reasonable
prices through them. If one supplier gives you the run-around, hang up and
go to the next. If it is important enough to do the research, you can find
exactly the silver braze product to suit your purpose just by looking at the
traditional brazing alloy manufacturers, then emailing them to find the
nearest retailer who carries any given product; sometimes, these will be
plumber's supply houses. I have done this time after time for my research
and it works just fine. However, don't be surprised when your own search
uncovers a multitude of new products meant to replace the higher priced
silver brazes, such as Blockade for instance. The bewildering variety of
such new filler alloys introduced in the last twenty years was the original
inspiration for my present book (at the time I had no idea that the new
alloys would be matched with a bewildering variety of new tool, equipment,
and fuel choices too :-)

Mark,
Definitely not; both the wife (who loves beer) and I are fighting the
battle of the bulge. Your hobby would amount to a disaster in our family
:-)

I recently made a break-through aluminum filler alloy discovery, after
months of frustration, by simply changing the input terminology. It
turns out that most of the so called miracle aluminum solder alloys are
simply Ney Metals "Ney 380" repackaged and sold for outrageous prices,
just like the so-called silver solder sold by jewelers supply outfits
are nothing more than short lengths of standard silver braze wire,
snipped from standard reasonably priced spools, and then sold in plastic
baggies-for outrageous prices. Drug dealers have nothing on these guys,
and it's all legal to boot!

Ha...Ok Mike...

On the silver solder discovery....NICELY DONE...I have always refrained
from purchasing silver solder every time I needed it...and now I am
thankful that I did!! Silver braze wire is widely available?

Thanks
Mark
