You can get adapters to solve the problem from Harbor Freight.

It's nice to have several; wire brush, disk & flap wheel- I sometimes use

The matter is moot now since Peggy gave me a new 4-1/2" ginder for my
birthday a couple of years ago and it has the currently standard
thread. The old B&D is now the spare to avoid unneccessary wheel
swaps.
Anyhow, I never used threaded disks. But I wanted to use a cup wheel,
cup wire brush and especially a holder for 3M Bristledisk(tm) and
Scotchbrite disks, all requireing a threaded mount. New grinder does
it nicely. (Altho I had to get a part custom-made to mount the 3M
things on a grinder. As designed, they required a tool w/ collet or
Jacobs chuck.)
