Well, Ralph, I now have an '87 Ford pickup with front-wheel-only drive
and a 12" flatbelt pulley a foot or so ahead of where the rear bumper
used to be. Various things welded on, welded together or chopped off.
Just have to make a big bushing for another pulley to fit it to the 2"
gear shaft and I'll be ready to try Plan B for the A&O hammer.

Drive shft to line shaft is *maybe* as much as 15 deghrees but I'd
say a bit less. I made a rubber coupling but I couldn't keep teh two
halves aligned and it woggled pretty bad. So I just have a rubber
pad between two matching flanges to couple them now. We'll just have
to see if it beats the bearings.
This is probably silly but I'm using a belt instead of a direct
coupling to the gear shaft because I don't want to cut town a dead
apple tree that's in the way. I just like that tree. It'll fall down
one of these years but in the meantime...
Ho hum. By the time I get this thing working I'll have forgotten
what I was going to do with it. Something about hot iron, wasn't it?
:-)
