Does the vise instead of a leg have a rectangle opening and a bolt as
part of the frame.
If so I was always told this mounted on the wooden pole on a wagon
I have one or more in the collection
I even know which building and what part of the floor one is laying

I also bought a cool shorty post vise. It has 4 inch jaws that are
almost pristine <new> looking under the light to moderate rust. The
vise is 16 inches top to bottom and about the same front to back.
Threads were still well greased, and looked like it had seen very little
use. This vise looks
to me it would be a great farrier's / traveling blacksmith's post vise.
I didn't find any markings on it. I have collected half a dozen good
post vises, but this is the first "shorty" that I have seen.
