In my opinion almost ANY other beginners book on
blacksmithing is better than
Bealer's book, "The Art of Blacksmithing." Bealer's
writing was inspirational
to a lot of people, but he ran a bit loose on the
facts. Treat it as a good
read, then look for facts elsewhere.
Could NOT agree with you More! I suspect Mr.
Bealer was relying on heresay or suppossiton
a number of times, rather than firsthand
experience.
I stand firmly behind Charles McRaven's
book(s) - "Country Blacksmithing" & the
revised edition (just released) entitled
"The Blacksmiths Craft".
Also fond of Ted Tucker's
"Practical projects for the Blacksmith"
and
Randy McDaniel's
"Blacksmithing primer : a course in Basic and
Intermediate Blacksmithing"
BUT! Biggest bang for the buck, hands down,
is the COSIRA books which are available online
for FREE as a pdf:

All the above said by the most beginningist
beginner that ever began...
