[TheForge] Baskets

Weld up a bunch of baskets, being careful to use the same stock lengths, etc., each time. Use a gas forge to get an even heat, quench the ends and twist and untwist in smoothe operations. You won't get two perfect ones the first time you try, but if you do several you'll eventually get two to match (with SOME cold tweaking). You'll eventually find uses for the odd ones - they won't go to waste.

Hi All,
I haven't been on this list for quite a while but ran into a problem
yesterday and thought I could find the answer here. I am making
refrigerator pulls for a client that require a basket in the middle. I
chose to use 6 strands of 3/16" round stock with a stub in the center.
As one of my friends told me (these are my very first baskets) "making
baskets is easy." I found he was right, although making "perfect"
baskets, and two that look alike became a challenge. I welded the ends
together, heated, twisted and then untwisted using a vise and tongs with
a little inward pressure. I find the baskets don't untwist evenly and
the ends are out of alignment.
I wonder if there is a method for getting them "perfect" during the
untwist phase for maybe I need to adjust them cold?
Thanks for any help,
Jeff
