WIW, A customer at Pennsic this year wanted a tripod top made to fit
1/2-inch black pipe. I took a page from Dan Kretchmar's Viking Tripod
and one from my usual stuff and made him a piece from 1/2-inch round.
I made three bent pieces with flattened ends, punched, and curved. I
then made a hook with a tenon that I put through the three holes and
bradded over. Ended up with a foldable tripod and hook that stood
about 8 inches tall. So the customer could insert the ends into 1/2-
inch black iron pipe and make whatever height tripod he wanted.
Worked fine, but the guy never showed up to collect it. So I put it
out on consignment. :)
John, First, did he pay for it? if not yes or hang on to it and take some
1/2" black pipe with you to Pensic next year and sell it.
Do you set up a forge there in merchants row? I am going there next year
and want to see what the blacksmiths setups are like. I do stuff for the
sca and would like to see the top that you did. I do a 3 piece conversion
set that can be tripod or spit style.
