Phlip-
I am "seattle area", but I am really an hour and a half drive away, if
you drive like I do. Not everybody does, in which case its a bit
longer.
So I am willing to be your backup resource, but I am pretty sure there
are lots of closer places that would be happy to let you use their
shop.
Where exactly is your cooking class?
Having grown up in Seattle, I have a pretty specific idea of what
"Seattle" is, but I find a lot of people consider suburbs I last
visited when they were woods to be "in town".
A mile or so south of downtown is what we call "the metal building",
which is about a 40,000 sq ft complex full of blacksmiths, metal
sculptors, fabricators, and the like. Dave and Andrea Lisch, who are
prominent in the local blacksmithing circles, have the biggest
blacksmith shop there, but there are several others as well. Its easy
to get to, and there are always people working there.
Or you could drop in on Louie Raffleur and gang, downtown in the thick
of the tallest buildings, at Black Dog Forge. Louie is a great guy who
is always willing to take a break from fabricating gear for
dominatrix's and other clients, and help anyone out. He's the one with
the steel toed boots, Utilikilt, and cowboy hat.

My suggestion is you contact NWBA, and have them post your dates and
needs, as well as the area you will be staying in. We have over 500
members, and probably 2/3 of them are in the Seattle area.

Dave's email is on here- down at the bottom under "Grants".
