I had a matched pair of 180# PW anvils. One with a sway, and the other
straghtedge straight.
Sold the straight , kept the sway.
"You can't straighten on a flat anvil" ( as easy).

Paddy, don't do it- unless the face looks like furrows in a plowed field.
The hard face on most PW's look about 3/8". A sway will actually help in
straightening operations and most forging is done across the anvil any way,
and most smiths use the same 3 or 4 inches. Move your spot up toward the
horn, use it as-is and don't worry about it. Adds character. Besides 3/16"
is not that bad for an anvil with that long a striking surface.

Hello All
I have a 400 lb pw anvil that has a lot of sway.I was thinking about
having the top planed down by about 3/16 .Does anyone have an idea as to how

thick the hardened surface would be on an avvil this large?
