I saw the most ugly wood burning heater in my life. It was and old boiler
type barrel with welded pipes going through it. It had a fan blowing air
through the pipes and heating up the work shop. They worked on heavy equipment
and it was nice and toasty inside. For the chimney they had an old piece of
12" Ductile iron water main pipe inside a 24" steel pipe through the roof.
I could not see if there was any insulation between the pipes. they were
feeding it large chunks of wood. from about 2 foot long and over 18"
diameter.

I did not have a camera with me but will try to see if I can get over there
again to get pictures of it. Something similar to it could be made out side
and have the fan flowing air through the pipes and heating up the shop.
Probably even have it ducted into a existing ductwork to heat a shop.
I live in Michigan.
