A friend of my mom's blacksmiths some just to keep his farm running.
He's not a self-conscious smith (boy, that has a Marxist ring, doesn't
it?) ;) I'd like to find someone who'd been at it a few dozen years and
who'd be willing let me hang around and learn a few things. Might be
fun to try my hand shoeing, even.

You can bet I'll look. If you'd be willing to share your friends'
contact info with me I'll look em up, or just give them mine. I don't
know I really have the talent to make it as a full-time
artist-blacksmith, but I'll be giving it a try. Be good to meet other
folks doing it.

Not too far out of town at all. Used to toboggan up there are a kid.

Like a still, you either gotta do the paperwork or you gotta not talk
about em. I'll be doing the paperwork. I don't have anything special,
shouldn't be a big deal. Just a hassle compared with here, where I can
go grocery shopping with a .45 on my hip just because the store's on
the way home from the range.

Sounds like a heck of a guy, love to meet him. I look forward to being
an adult in BC instead of the arrogant proto-intellectual kid I was
when I left. Mike wondered since when Canadians were predominantly
rednecks, and they're not--there's just no single term for the person
you described so that one gets used with a kind of not to its
inadequacy. There should be. Seems like there's a lot of them here.
