I owned my own container for a good ten years- not a chassis, just a
container. I paid about $2500 for it, but it had 2 rollup doors on it
in addition to the end doors- would have been cheaper otherwise. Around
here 40 footers can often be had for $1500 or so.
I moved a couple of trailer loads with Schneider- they are a big
trucking, not moving firm- they will drop off a trailer at your place,
you load it, then you call and they come and pick it up and take it
where you want- cost me under 2 grand for a full 54 foot trailer from
LA to Seattle.
Still think it might be cheaper to go that way, and then, once you get
there, buy whatever it is you want, taking your time and finding the
best deal on the local market.
