I the folks I have talked to that have these anvils like them -- but they do 
say they are just a bit soft.  I understand they are around a Rockwell C of 
48.  They are a cast mag steel and will work harden so the surface will get 
better with use and some level of shallow dressing.  I don't have one but it 
is on my list.
