Hey Dan,

Here's the picture I was talking about. It's a wood cut from Bartolomeo
Scappi's "Opera". Scappi was the private cook to Pope Pius V. The "Opera"
was published in 1570 in Venice. the engraving depicts the field kitchen
the Pope's lackeys used to prepare food for him while on progress. The
largest cooking rig in the background is an "A" frame.

What impressed me most about this, was the total use of cooking space for
spitted food. A careful inspection shows hooks for spits on nearly every
surface. Even on the legs of the stand in the foreground.

to be almost 8.5"x11" if downloaded and printed)

The pic is around 100k and I've tried to keep the resolution so you can see
construction details. The peak of the "A" meet and join with a pin that
comes up from the bottom.

Just doing my best to help out my fellow Dan.
