[TheForge] Sorry to break in with a blacksmithing question

The ghost of Francis and Peter Ross would give us all hell for going to the
chop saw (or band saw) rather than using the hardie for cutting stock up to
at least an inch or so. I used a hack yesterday to cut some 1 1/2 round on
the power hammer. (Hot of course.) I have seen huge hacks mounted on the
front of fork trucks used to cut heavy heavy stock under a 3000 ton press.
(20 inch diameter.) For lots applications there is no reason not to cut it
at the anvil -- hot. My reference to Peter Ross was his frustration when
teaching at the John C. Campbell Folk School how often students would cool a
piece and then go cut it on the chop saw rather that cut it at the anvil.
Most of us have grown up in the machine age and think of a machine to cut
with when in fact we can cut many things with a hardie or a hot cut.
