Ever since this thread started I have been trying to remember the 
details of a handle that my mom had for her various pots .

One handle  for several pieces of cookware.
It was more or less like picking up a cup by sticking your thumb into 
the cup and putting your index and little finger under the bottom.

Perfectly stable when load bearing and pops right off when the pan is 
set down and the end of the handle lifted up and toward the pot.

It eliminated handle clutter on the stove top and  space in the oven.
