Subject: [TheForge] jewellery for blacksmiths

All,

A friend of mine saw the wedding ring I made and asked if I would
"reshape" the ring she promised her now ex-husband she would never
sell. I know zero about gold and fine jewellery making (I cut my
damascus ring on my lathe). Can any of you direct me to a book or other
source (besides "the internet" or "the library") for information on
forging jewellery? I understand most rings are cast, so maybe this is a
non-sequitur. I was picturing a very small anvil or vise with a
ring-sized mandel on which one could work with chasing hammer, punch,
and chisel. She wants a hand-hammered look.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

JRF
