We've done it twice now in the NJBA.

Exactly so; it surprises me that more groups don't get together and do that  
very thing. In the first place, the expensive materials can be purchased  for 
less when you buy in bulk. In the second place, the forges can be turned out  
more easily when several people pool their resources. Some groups have done 
just  that, but it's not common.
