Clean surfaces are best. Any brass scrap will do and borax is a fine
flux. Flux joint, add brass chips and place ON fire (not IN) and slowly
bring work to red heat. When the brass melts, it should fill the
joint. If it doesn't you can use a soldering pick to draw the filler
along the joint to best ensure it is completely soldered.
I'd make a few test pieces and play. You will see that it is not a very
difficult thing to do.
