[TheForge] Log Dog

I made a couple for a local guy who was into making log buildings. From his
specs, they were 5/8"sq X 21" long. The ends were 3" long and chisel-pointed
perpendicular to each other. I asked the wisdom of the 'net back then what to
use to make them, and the answer was plain old A36, water-quenched.

He's only used them to build a large shed, but no complaints so far, except that
the flaired points I originally made got stuck in the logs and needed to be
ground straight. But from his experience, chisel points worked far better than
nail points, just don't flare them out. The nail points got really stuck in the
log.

Hope the description makes sense.

PS Not really related, but interesting none the less - This guy lives in a state
park and runs the only water-powered up-and-down sawmill in the country, or the
East, or NH, or something like that.
