[TheForge] NOW wheelchairs and anvils

I have a brother in a wheelchair. Never knew that a pencil size thing on
the floor was an obstacle. Never knew that a water hose was a major
obstacle.
Talking with him in the past...
Being able to sit in one place is necessary. Lean over a bit, pick up the
piece, and have the anvil over the lap. Like rolling up underneath a
kitchen table. Haven't built it yet, but thinking about it. He used to
hammer a few years ago, back when he could walk normal<G>.
Of importance. Many in wheelchairs have no feeling below the waist. So an
attentive helper is important. A person could be on fire, and not notice it
until the flames were apparent. And healing is very slow, due to poor
circulation, of course, due to lack of movement.
Now, in this, I speak in general terms, but they are concerns that must be
considered<G>.
However, there is much cold work that may also be done. Copper roses for
example. Less hazard of heat, but much artistic input<G>.

At the ABANA 2002 La Crosse, there was a "hands on" participant group of
techie anvils made from 4" by 4" square stock on pipe legs. Why not make a
similar anvil that could have the wheel chair actually roll under it.
Certainly there would have to be a good leather apron protecting the belly
and legs.

that would sit near or even over the lap.\. or in some orientation that
would not force the chairbound smith to have to bend forward or to the side
in any excessive fashion in order to hammer. What do you all think of this?
