Unfortunately, talking to some of these jerks will, indeed, prompt retaliation.  I sent an email to a guy that had a LG Hammer listed for WAY too much money.  I was very polite and even prefaced my remarks by saying I was not trying to get him to lower the price and then buy it, since I was not interested in the hammer.  He Blasted me back and even complained to Ebay about my "unethical" activities in trying to get him to lower his price.

"Never argue with a fool.  People may not be able to tell the difference."
