Subject: Re: [TheForge] Vice repair
Hi Bob;
I was wrestling with my old lathe trying to get it to cut a
replacement female thread for a stripped 6" Colombian vise i was
given....my wife said, " Why don't you buy one". I said that
they'd been out of business for 40 years probably....but she
meant the thread.
Couldnt find an economical acme thread that was as fast, but
bought a slower one and a 3" coupling nut to match. Some
cutting,welding and grinding later it seems to work just fine...PF

Peter,
This would have been my non-lathe solution before I noticed how the original
vice was made.
I'm sure that better vices have cut threads. I've used this one for 8 years,
and
who knows how many years use were on it before I got it. If I had kept it
better
lubricated it may have never given me any trouble.
