You mean that it's just a piece of pipe, like, rudely mashed into the
male threads?  Yow.  That's a new one for me.

The process may have been rude, but the result was pretty good.
The resulting thread was a good fit and very full.. I think the key is
having a swage block to contain the pipe while working it into the 
threads.
