A VCR's worth, what, $40? It'd take a whole bunch more than that to 
induce _me_ to enter somebody's house and risk my neck on the chance 
they really _aren't_ there or, if they are, won't interpret my presence 
as a lethal threat and act accordingly -- a _whole_ big bunch more! :)

Besides, that $40 represents some specific piece of its owner's life 
traded for it or at least traded for the money to buy it.
