Dan,

A couple of days ago you were concerned about losing an eye to a
superquenched die breaking. Then you advise using track pins, coil
springs and etc for hammer dies. It would seem to me that the biggest
danger of superquenched 1018 is that they will wear out. What are the
chances of hardening high carbon track pins, coil springs, etc. *too*
hard (hmmm...looks like a cherry), tempering to little etc. Seems like
some room for problems there too.

As always be sure to wear safety glasses.

The original question wasn't how to make dies for repetitive work. And
I am not saying that superquenched dies are the best dies. I am only
saying that they are an affordable easy solution for a guy who runs his
hammer on a hobby or part time basis. If he has to dress the dies now
and then...no problem.
