[TheForge] Welding Cast Iron

Phil,

I may be late on this thread but I stick weld cast iron with high nickel
content DC rod.  There are two rods where I buy it.  I'm pretty sure they
are Ni55 and Ni99.  I use the 99 for most stuff although I don't do a lot of
cast welding.  You must preheat, weld, then let air cool under a blanket if
possible so it cools slowly.  If you have cracks in sections, make sure you
drill a hole at the end of the cracks so it doesn't run when you weld it.
I've used TIG for ductile iron but only when cladding.  That's not to say it
can't be done.  Cast rod is pricey.  Good luck
