Just by way of morale support, Jerry: It was 47 years ago that 3
fingers of my right hand and assorted nerves, veins and arteries in my
wrist were more or less shredded.  The orthopaedic surgeon put it all
together again.  Aside from the period of rehab/physio, I've been able
to do nearly everything normally and I still have no significant
problems despite advancing age.

I gather you're starting out with way less of a mess that I had and
surgical technique has made stunning advances since 1957.
